Purchasing Agent
The Position Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented professional looking for an opportunity to utilize your purchasing expertise and experience? As a Purchasing Agent with the Department of Health, you will play a key role in keeping statewide operations running effectively. This position gives you the chance to coordinate purchasing activities that help programs meet their goals. Your efforts will support vital public health services and ensure timely access to needed resources. Description of Work This position supports the purchasing process for Department of Health programs by reviewing requests, preparing documents, and coordinating with vendors and staff. As a Purchasing Agent, you will perform the following duties: Document Review: Check shopping carts and purchasing documents for accuracy, correct coding, and proper contract references. Bid Preparation: Help create bid packages, review submissions, and participate in the award process. Vendor Coordination: Communicate with suppliers to gather information and resolve purchasing issues. Contract Tracking: Monitor contract status, update tracking systems, and respond to inquiries from staff and oversight offices. System Management: Run reports, maintain purchasing data, and support programs with questions about processes and requirements. Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description. Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‐time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday‐Friday, with a 30‐minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home part‐time. To telework, you must have a securely configured high‐speed internet connection and be located inside Pennsylvania. If you cannot telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‐negotiable. Qualifications Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years of experience in purchasing work involving contact with vendors in the procurement of a variety of supplies, materials, equipment, or services; or Three years of experience in requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintaining inventory of goods; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Post‐high school education may be substituted on a year‐for‐year basis for purchasing or stores experience to a maximum of two years. You must meet the PA residency requirement.
