Web Designer/Developer

The Center for Information Technology (CIT)/Web Services Sr. Web Developer provides guidance and direction to a team of junior developers, translates and refines website specifications, and resolves complex technical issues. The successful candidate will have wide-ranging development experience building enterprise web solutions using current, industry-standard web technologies, including CSS/XHTML, Adobe Photoshop, and other web technologies. Also, he/she should have the ability to manage the underlying operating system platform. This role requires a seasoned individual with proficient communication and people skills coupled with a technical understanding of graphic art to seamlessly work with visual designers, graphic artists, system engineers, database administrators, and software programmers. *This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is contingent upon the continuation of related grant funding. Duties and Responsibilities Manage complex web solution development projects Serve as a supervisor to junior members and as a technical lead Design and develop user interfaces to Internet/intranet applications and solutions Integrate web-based applications using database architecture and server-side scripting Determine proper methods and tools that are appropriate for each project Maintain technical and operational documentation Oversee updating of web servers and web applications Create graphic and visual elements using Adobe Creative Cloud products Perform other professional duties as directed by the Supervisor Requirements Must possess excellent communication skills Must be able to work well both independently and within a team environment Must have experience working with customers Qualifications BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent. May substitute the equivalent in a combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience 8-15 years of experience as a software developer Understanding of all phases of the software development lifecycle Skilled with project management concepts Proficient with versioning control systems (e.g., Git or SVN) Experience in current web technologies (e.g., JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP) Proficient in .NET based web development including ASP/ASPX.NET and C# Proficient using MSSQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL databases in support of web applications Proficient developing applications following industry best practices and design patterns Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Agile project management Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint administration and site design Experience with web hosting in Linux and Windows operating system environments Experience with Apache, Apache Tomcat, Adobe ColdFusion, WordPress, and Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) http://www.hamptonu.edu/hr/jobdetail.cfm?id=1101 Job Type: Full-time Benefits: 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Retirement plan Tuition reimbursement Schedule: Day shift Monday to Friday Weekends as needed Ability to commute/relocate: Hampton, VA 23668: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred) Education: High school or equivalent (Preferred) Experience: Front-end development: 1 year (Required) CSS: 1 year (Preferred) WordPress: 1 year (Preferred) Work Location: In person
