Title: Technical WriterLocation: Lowell, MAJob Type: Contract (4-6 Months)Compensation: $35 - 43/hrIndustry: Medical DeviceAbout The RoleOur client, a leading medical device manufacturer based in Lowell, MA, is seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer on a contract basis. This is a newly created role focused on transforming institutional knowledge into structured, accessible documentation to support engineering, maintenance, and production teams. The Technical Writer will sit within the engineering team to ensure close collaboration and direct access to subject matter experts, workflows, and processes.Job DescriptionThe Technical Writer will partner closely with engineering leadership, engineers, and technicians to capture workflows, standardize processes, and drive a culture of continuous improvement through clear and effective documentation. Templates and initial guidance will be provided, but the expectation is for this individual to take full ownership of the function and drive the project forward from the ground up.Develop, revise, and standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical documentationCreate troubleshooting guides for various equipment groups to support maintenance and operations teamsTranslate hands-on knowledge from technicians and engineers into clear, structured documentationPartner cross-functionally with engineering and maintenance teams to understand current processes and identify documentation gapsSupport the development of preventive maintenance (PM) and repair processes with robust, documented proceduresOrganize and maintain documentation within systems including CMMS platforms for maintenance workflows and ERP/QMS systems for controlled and regulated documentsDrive consistency and organization across all documentation, contributing to a more structured and scalable environmentApply a continuous improvement mindset to refine and optimize documentation processesQualificationsRequired Qualifications:Proven experience as a Technical Writer in a manufacturing, engineering, or regulated environmentStrong ability to learn complex technical processes and translate them into clear, user-friendly documentationExperience creating SOPs, work instructions, and troubleshooting manualsAbility to work independently and take ownership of a new function from the ground upExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to engage subject matter experts and suggest process improvementsPreferred Qualifications:Familiarity with documentation systems and tools such as CMMS platforms (e.g., Fiix) and ERP/QMS systems (e.g., Oracle)Comfortable working onsite and embedded within an engineering environmentProactive, organized, and detail-oriented with strong self-directionWillingness to ask questions, challenge processes constructively, and offer new ideasAdaptable and collaborative with the ability to balance multiple stakeholder perspectivesBenefitsDahl Consulting is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees that will allow you to choose the best coverage to meet your family's needs.
