ACCESS is seeking an Accounting Manager to fill a key role in the organization’s accounting and finance operations in support of our mission of building community to provide food, warmth, and shelter. This position is responsible for producing timely and accurate financial reports, maintaining strong accounting records, and administering budgets and internal controls designed to mitigate risk, strengthen financial stewardship, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).The Accounting Manager leads day-to-day accounting operations and partners closely with the CFO, Grants, and Finance Teams to strengthen systems, support staff development, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and organizational policies—helping ACCESS maximize resources so our programs can serve the community effectively.Leadership Values & Expectations (How We Work)All leaders at ACCESS are expected to model our commitment to mission-centered service and a respectful, inclusive workplace. If you are dedicated, hardworking and have a passion for helping others, ACCESS is the place for you!Position Duties & ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & CloseLead the Finance Team in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.Prepare, review, and/or oversee journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close schedules to ensure timely and accurate reporting.Reconcile bank statements and balance sheet accounts monthly; investigate and resolve variances promptly.Support preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements, schedules, and reports for leadership programs and funders.Accounting Management (Core Manager Duties)Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, payroll oversight, credit card management, fixed assets, cash and bank management and records management.Ensure transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with US GAAP and organizational policies.Maintain and improve accounting processes, documentation, and workflow (SOPs); help ensure continuity and cross-training.Maintain the chart of accounts, conduct end-user training as needed.Support grant/project accounting: track restricted funds, assist with invoicing, reporting, and compliance documentation as assigned.Partner with program leaders to resolve coding, documentation, and budget questions; provide customer-service-oriented accounting support.Support annual audits and any other required reviews by preparing schedules, documentation, and reconciliations; respond to auditor requests.Internal Controls, Risk & ComplianceOperate effectively within the organization’s internal control environment, support compliance with key control principles and audit readiness.Work with the compliance manager to monitor compliance with contract requirements, procurement documentation, and record retention practices.Leadership & SupervisionSupervise accounting staff and coordinate work assignments.Provide onboarding, training, and performance feedback; support development plans and documentation aligned with HR practices.Position RequirementsBelief in ACCESS’ mission to operate through partnerships and service to provide food, warmth, and shelter to promote stability for vulnerable populations.5+ years of experience working with US GAAP, fund accounting, audits, budgets, accounts payable, payroll, and financial statement reporting.3+ years supervising employees preferredExperience in nonprofit or fund accounting is preferred but not required.Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required or a combination of education and relevant experience which would equal a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.Strong attention to detail with excellent communication, leadership, and management skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple complex work assignments.Proficiency in MS Office, with an emphasis on Excel; experience with accounting/ERP systems is required.A valid Oregon Driver’s License with a record acceptable under ACCESS’ insurance policies.
