The Drill Rig Locator is responsible for guiding the drill head, monitoring bore paths, and ensuring the accuracy of underground utility installations. This role is critical to avoiding utility strikes and maintaining efficiency on HDD projects.ResponsibilitiesOperate electronic HDD locating equipment (such as DigiTrak, Subsite, or other industry-standard locators) to guide and track drill head location, depth, and alignment.Read and interpret bore profiles, construction blueprints, and utility maps to ensure accurate drilling paths.Monitor and adjust drill head trajectory to avoid underground obstacles and existing utilities.Communicate continuously with the Drill Operator to provide accurate depth, angle, and tracking data.Ensure bore paths comply with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.Perform pre-bore planning, including site assessment, utility verification, and drill path mapping.Assist in potholing and daylighting utilities to verify bore paths.Calibrate locating equipment daily and maintain accurate tracking logs.Troubleshoot and resolve locating issues to maintain efficiency and safety.Coordinate with field supervisors and project managers to ensure timely completion of drilling projects.Follow all OSHA, company, and client safety guidelines to maintain a hazard-free work environment.QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of experience as an HDD Drill Rig Locator.Proficiency with HDD locating equipment, including DigiTrak Falcon F5, Subsite TK, or similar systems.Understanding of bore planning, HDD operations, and underground utility construction.Ability to interpret utility maps, bore profiles, and as-builts.Knowledge of drill head behavior in different ground conditions.Strong communication skills to effectively relay information to the drill operator.Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.Class A CDL preferred (or willingness to obtain).Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical and drug screening.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Experience in fiber optic installation or underground utility construction is a plus.Work ConditionsOutdoor fieldwork in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).Physically demanding role requiring walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and kneeling.Frequent travel to project sites may be required.Overtime, on-call assignments, and occasional night/weekend work as needed.BenefitsModus Utility Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:✅ Medical, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance✅ 401(k) with Company Match✅ Paid Vacation✅ Opportunities for Career Growth & DevelopmentWhy Join Us?Be part of a leading HDD and fiber optics construction team.Work in an environment that prioritizes safety, precision, and innovation.Enjoy competitive pay and excellent benefits.Join a growing company with opportunities for advancement.Job Type: Full-timePay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hourExpected hours: 30 – 50 per weekBenefits:401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offVision insuranceSchedule:Day shiftMonday to FridayNights as neededWeekends as neededYear round workLanguage:English (Required)Ability to Commute:Indiana (Required)Ability to Relocate:Indiana: Relocate before starting work (Required)Work Location: On the road
