At DHI Detroit, we pride ourselves on professionalism, expertise, and a dedication to customer education.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role based in Detroit, MI, for a Home Inspector. The Home Inspector will conduct detailed inspections of residential properties to assess their condition, identify issues, and provide recommendations to buyers. Responsibilities include examining structural systems, electrical components, plumbing, HVAC systems, and other essential aspects of properties. The role also involves delivering detailed reports, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaboration with potential buyers and real estate professionals will be a key part of daily tasks.Following the onboarding process, candidates will complete a comprehensive 4–8 week hands-on training program designed to develop technical inspection knowledge, reporting accuracy, and client communication skills. The length of the training period will vary depending on prior industry experience, construction knowledge, inspection competency, and overall progression throughout the program. During training, inspectors will work alongside experienced team members conducting on-site inspections, learning reporting software, reviewing property systems, and developing the ability to independently perform thorough, client-focused home inspections to DHI Detroit standards.QualificationsProficiency in Property Inspections and general Inspection proceduresExperience in Property Management and New Business DevelopmentStrong skills in Customer Service and communicationAttention to detail and the ability to produce clear, comprehensive reportsFamiliarity with regulations, safety standards, and inspection practicesAbility to manage on-site inspections and tight deadlines effectivelyValid driver’s license and ability to travel locallyProfessional certification in home inspection or relevant industry credentials is a plusExperience2–5 years of experience in residential construction, home inspections, property management, general contracting, or related real estate fields preferredExperience evaluating structural systems, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and foundation components strongly preferredFamiliarity with inspection reporting software such as Palmtech, Spectora, or HomeGauge preferredPrior experience preparing detailed inspection reports with photos, repair recommendations, and safety observationsKnowledge of residential building codes, safety standards, and common construction practicesExperience working directly with homebuyers, real estate agents, contractors, or property owners in a client-facing environmentStrong understanding of residential maintenance issues, deferred maintenance, and property risk assessmentAbility to manage multiple on-site inspections while maintaining attention to detail and professionalism under tight deadlinesProfessional home inspection certification (InterNACHI, ASHI, or equivalent) preferred but not requiredValid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally throughout the Detroit metro area required
