Position SummaryThe Controller is responsible for leading all accounting and financial reporting functions for a multi-location retail organization. This individual will oversee the monthly close process, financial reporting, inventory accounting, internal controls, cash management, and the development of accounting policies and procedures. The Controller will partner closely with operations and executive leadership to support growth initiatives, improve processes, and provide actionable financial insights.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial ReportingLead all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesPrepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAPManage general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and journal entriesEnsure compliance with accounting policies and internal controlsCoordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditorsMaintain accounting procedures and documentationRetail Operations SupportOversee accounting for a multi-location retail operationManage inventory accounting, shrink analysis, and inventory reservesMonitor gross margin performance and analyze variancesReview store-level financial performance and key operating metricsPartner with operations leaders to improve profitability and efficiencyCash Management and TreasuryOversee cash flow management and liquidity planningMonitor daily cash activity and banking relationshipsManage debt compliance and reporting requirements, if applicableLeadershipLead, mentor, and develop the accounting teamFoster a collaborative and high-performance cultureEvaluate staffing needs and implement process improvementsEstablish goals and performance expectations for team membersProcess ImprovementIdentify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance controlsImplement best practices and leverage technology to improve efficiencyParticipate in ERP implementations and system enhancementsSupport acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives as neededQualificationBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance requiredCPA designation strongly preferred10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilitiesExperience within a multi-location retail environment strongly preferredStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reportingExperience with inventory accounting and cost accountingExperience managing external audits and internal controlsProficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel skillsAbility to communicate effectively with executive leadership and operational teamsPreferred ExperiencePrivate equity-backed or high-growth environmentMulti-state operationsERP implementation or system conversion experienceM&A integration experienceExperience supporting organizations with $100M+ in revenue
