Software Engineer/Business Intelligence (BI) Developer Location: Hybrid in Washington, DC Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a U.S. Federal government client badge and will be required to pass a government background investigation. Candidates with active DOT clearance preferred. Position Overview: InDev is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer/BI Developer to lead the modernization and automation of enterprise Business Intelligence platforms. This role requires deep experience in Data Warehousing, Tableau development, cloud-based data ecosystems, and hands-on expertise migrating legacy BI environments (specifically OBIEE) to modern Tableau-based architectures. The ideal candidate will also bring strong automation capabilities, including leveraging APIs, scripting, and AI-driven workflows to streamline BI operations. Your Future Duties and Responsibilities: BI Modernization & Dashboard Development Build visually compelling, scalable, and high-performance Tableau dashboards from the ground up. Lead the end-to-end migration from OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition) to Tableau, ensuring business logic, data integrity, and visual quality are preserved or improved. Define and promote best practices for dashboard design, performance optimization, and data visualization standards. Requirements Analysis & Collaboration Work closely with product owners to interpret business and functional requirements and translate them into technical deliverables. Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and roadmap refinement. Collaborate with engineers, analysts, SMEs, and senior stakeholders to support data and visualization needs. Prototyping & Solution Engineering Convert conceptual requirements into rapid prototypes and production-ready BI solutions. Create customized and interactive Tableau dashboards tailored to user needs. Data Warehousing & Cloud Engineering Develop and maintain scalable Data Warehousing solutions for large and complex datasets, ensuring performance and reliability. Utilize cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Databricks, or Azure to support BI and data operations. API Integrations & Automation Implement and maintain API integrations for ETL processes and automated data flows. Automate BI and data operations using APIs, scripting, and orchestration tools to reduce manual workload. Enhance operational efficiency by automating recurring tasks such as report generation and data pipeline triggers. Communication & Quality Assurance Proactively communicate status updates, risks, and issues throughout the development lifecycle. Ensure all BI deliverables meet quality, performance, and reliability standards. Required Qualifications: 8+ years of experience in Data Warehousing and Tableau development. Minimum 5+ years developing Tableau dashboards as a primary responsibility (not as a secondary analytics tool). Strong expertise in Tableau dashboard design, performance tuning, and best practices. Experience in data modeling and writing advanced SQL, including stored procedures. Hands-on experience with OBIEE-to-Tableau migration projects. Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud data tools such as Databricks. Proven ability to develop automation workflows for BI reporting, data loading, and data pipeline management. Experience optimizing BI solutions for high-frequency loads, large datasets, and demanding performance use cases. Familiarity with data replication, high availability, and migration techniques. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with data integration tools/frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow, Talend, or similar. Experience using serverless automation technologies such as AWS Lambda. Understanding of machine learning workflows or AI integrations in Databricks. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git. Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, Kanban) and tools like JIRA.
