Our work environment includes: Lively atmosphere International workforce Ormond Ballet is seeking a Ballet Teaching Artist who is excited to join a our dance school. This is our thirds season in Ormond Beach and we are looking forward to serving our community. We are looking for knowledgeable and seasoned ballet teaching artists, Vaganova (Russian) Method preferred, but not required. Ormond Ballet's mission is to inspire a lasting love and appreciation for dance within Ormond Beach and the greater Volusia County Area through artistic excellence, exhilarating performances, inventive creations, meaningful community outreach, and cultural leadership. Within the school, we aim to provide the very best in performing arts education to all within a warm and welcoming environment, setting a tone for an atmosphere of exploration, excitement, emotional maturity, and self-esteem. Contract Terms Duration: 38 week contract, possible summer session/intensive contract Location: 1240 Hand Ave., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 Hour: Part-time, approx. 2-10 hours per week, Monday-Saturdays as timetabled. Some flexibility will be required from time to time to cover performances. Holidays/Vacation: All vacation time is to be taken outside of term time and during the school’s scheduled time off (listed below). You will receive a separate contract for the summer session and/or summer intensive. School’s Scheduled Time Off: 1 week off for Thanksgiving Break, 2 weeks off for Christmas Break, 1 week off for Spring Break. Reports to: The Artistic Director Role: The Ballet Teaching Artist has a passion for the artform and immerses themselves in methodology, performance, history, theory, criticism, coaching, and developing young artists. They are compelled to share their passion for the artform with their students. The Ballet Teaching Artist has a reverence and respect for the art of teaching and for one another. They dive into their craft and travel down the path of continuing education in order to provide the highest quality education and experience for their students. The Ballet Teaching Artist respects their students and is sensitive to their needs and finds the best way to encourage and support each student. They motivate their students to achieve their greatest potential. The Ballet Teaching Artist is flexible and empowers students to think for themselves in order to cultivate true understanding. They understand the importance of mental and physical health to the success of the young artist, therefore, keeping up with teaching best practices and will be an advocate for students while always keeping the classroom a safe space to question, explore, experiment, and problem-solve. Responsibilities: Ballet technique, Pointe Technique, Men’s Technique (Preferred, Not Required), Variations (Preferred, Not Required), and/or Pas de Deux (Preferred, Not Required). Prepare lesson plans for weekly classes Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Handle restaging classical ballets and ability to choreograph own works. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies (some of this will be provided for you). Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Ability to communicate with a diverse group of teachers and students. Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals. Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement. Conduct group and private lessons as required. Have an understanding of dance kinesiology/anatomy and physiology Proactive and flexible approach to work Requirements: 5 years teaching experience Bachelor’s degree preferred Professional career preferred Attention to detail and problem solving skills Strong organizational and planning skills Teamwork Discretion and Judgment Patience Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build good supportive relationships with students, colleagues and the wider dance community Flexible attitude towards duties and working patterns in order to fulfill the requirements of the role Empathy with and a commitment to the aims and ethos of the School.
