Founding Robotics Engineer (Hardware)
About UndauntedWe’re deploying robotic security to make communities safer so people can thrive. Backed by Atlanta Ventures and Fuse VC, we’ve become the largest robotic security company in the US in just over a year. We have close to 100 robots sold, and we’re just getting started. What You’ll DoWe are developing our own robots in-house. As a founding robotics engineer, you will be an integral part of the team leading that initiative.Your role will evolve from rapid prototyping to overseeing full-scale production and manufacturing, ensuring our robots operate reliably at scale. As an early-stage startup, our needs change rapidly, and we expect you to adapt when those situations arise, wear many hats, and be an ultimate team player. That said, we envision the following.ImmediateWe are currently designing an in-house four-wheeled security rover for customers operating on large properties such as parking lots, truck depots, and industrial sites. You will play a key role in designing, building, and testing this platform end-to-end.You’ll work directly with customer feedback from early deployments to inform design decisions and guide further iterations. This platform will also serve as a technical foundation for our longer-term efforts, including a custom quadruped system.Beyond:You will contribute to the design and development of our custom quadruped robot. This platform is intended to operate in more complex, unstructured environments. You’ll be involved in early architectural decisions and hands-on development across mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems, including:Prototyping and testing subsystems to validate performance under real operational conditionsIterating toward a platform that is manufacturable, maintainable, and deployable at scaleThis is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of a US-made quadruped built for real-world deployment, not confined to a research lab.Who we are looking forWe are looking for someone who meets our company values:Mission First – We exist to make communities safer so people can thrive. Our technology is a tool for impact, and we never lose sight of that. You have a track record of working on impactful projects. You can articulate why our mission resonates with you personally.Passionate Ownership – Nothing is “not our job.” We challenge ourselves and our teammates to work harder and smarter because we care too much to settle for less. You set high standards for yourself and others and are willing to share direct, candid feedback with others. You're passionate about your ideas but open to changing your mind and committing to team decisions. You are deeply invested in the things you spend your time on and you work harder than others to get it done right.Lead with Love – We operate with empathy and compassion for everyone our work touches. We support our team, uplift the communities we serve, and even recognize the humanity in those we deter. You show up authentically, build lasting trust with teammates, support them through challenges, and rejoice in their successes. You care about our broader social impact and seek to understand it more deeply over time.Outrageous Ambition – We aim to build a robotic security company on a scale that does not currently exist, and we have 100% conviction that we will succeed. We dream bigger and figure out ways to achieve our goals. You have accomplished things in your life that you thought were impossible, and continue to redefine the standard for yourself. You think that 50,000 robots in the field in the next 5 years isn’t just achievable, but an expectation.Technical ExpertiseWe’re looking for true generalists, engineers who aren’t afraid of tackling problems outside their comfort zones. Some of these attributes include:Hands-On Builder: You take ideas from concept to working product, whether it’s hacking together a quick prototype or refining a system for real-world reliability.Mechanical Design: Experience taking CAD projects from start to finishMechatronics: Experienced in integrating cameras, motors, sensors, and controllers with Raspberry Pi-based systems, including wiring, soldering, and real-world hardware deployment.
