Project Engineer I (Entry-Level)
Job Summary: Entry-level project engineering role supporting the technical, documentation, and coordination aspects of electrical construction projects. The Project Engineer I assists senior project managers and project managers with submittals, RFIs, QA/QC, field coordination, and procurement support while developing core technical and project executor skills. This role focuses on learning electrical systems, project workflows, and constructor best practices under supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support
- Assist with interpretation of electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, and specifications.
- Support preparation and review of RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
- Assist with basic electrical calculations, quantity takeoffs, and scope verification under
supervision.
- Support QA/QC inspections and documentation for electrical installations.
Project Coordination:
- Support project managers with schedule updates, look-ahead planning inputs, and
coordination tasks.
- Assist in tracking engineering deliverables, submittal status, and design changes.
- Coordinate with vendors to collect technical data, drawings, and material information.
- Participate in coordination meetings and document action items.
Quality, Safety & Compliance:
- Assist with verifying installations align with drawings, specifications, and NEC
requirements.
- Support QA/QC documentation, inspection checklists, and punch-list tracking.
- Participate in site walks, safety observations, and inspection readiness activities.
- Maintain organized project records related to quality and compliance.
Cost & Change Support:
- Assist with material takeoffs and quantity tracking.
- Support preparation of change documentation by collecting field data and impacts.
- Help track engineering-related scope changes and design clarifications.
- Assist in maintaining logs for RFIs, submittals, and change events.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
Technical & Project Performance:
- RFI and submittal quality and completeness.
- Accuracy of documentation and technical deliverables.
- QA/QC inspection pass rate on supported scopes.
Scheduling & Coordination:
- Timeliness of engineering deliverables and documentation.
- Responsiveness to PM and field requests.
- Effectiveness in tracking and closing action items.
Cost & Change Support:
- Accuracy of quantity takeoffs and material tracking.
- Quality of support provided for change documentation.
- Reduction in rework due to coordination or documentation errors.
Safety & Compliance:
- Participation in safety walks and inspections.
- Compliance with NEC and company QA/QC standards.
- Accuracy and completeness of inspection documentation.
