PositionAssistant Professor, HistoryDepartmentProthro-Yeager College of Humanities & Social SciencesJob Classification(s):The following positions will be considered for this opening.Please use the links below to open job description(s) in a NEW WINDOW.Assistant ProfessorStarting DateFall 2026ResponsibilitiesThe Department of History in the College of Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026.As a faculty member in the Department of History, you will be expected to:1. Teach 12 credit hours (4 courses) a semester. This includes core courses in U.S. history as well as upper-level courses in public history and/or digital history approaches. Face-to-face and online teaching are both expected.2. Maintain an active research agenda within one's field of expertise. This may include public and/or digital history projects.3. Provide service to the department, college, and university, including participation in recruitment and retention activities.About the College:The Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences consists of the academic departments of English, humanities, and philosophy; history; psychology; political science; sociology; and world languages and cultures. Each department offers majors, minors, and core curriculum courses. Faculty development funding is available at the university, college, and departmental levels.About the Department/School/Area:The Department of History offers undergraduate and graduate programs-including a BA, BA with Secondary Certification, MA, and minor in military history-with award-winning faculty whose classes span the globe. We pride ourselves in equipping students with marketable skills for a range of future careers.RequirementsRequired Qualifications1. PhD in History (ABD considered with expected completion by August 17, 2026)2. Expertise in Public and/or Digital History. The department is particularly interested in faculty who can teach courses that introduce students to digital tools/techniques and/or the practice of public history.3. Evidence of scholarship research.4. Evidence of teaching effectiveness.Preferred Qualifications In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:1. Commitment to undergraduate education2. Ability to teach courses that would add to the department's offerings3. Interest in facilitating internships and/or projects with local and regional organizationsStandard RequirementsRequires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
