Nurse Practitioner - Mental Health

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) works in the Outpatient Section of Substance Treatment And Recovery Services (STARS), a component of Mental Health Services at WJBD V AMC, Columbia, South Carolina or associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics.The PMHNP has prescriptive authority and provides care for an identified patient panel in collaboration with a physician. Core functions include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic health care problems, performing adult care check-ups, and prescribing medication and treatments. Diagnoses and manages minor trauma including suturing. Teaches health promotion and disease prevention to patients.Assists in providing and ensuring clinical care is provided during periods of staff absences and/or makes arrangements for coverage to provide complex patient care. Will demonstrate excellent practice based on the nursing process and evidence-based research. S/he will pay close attention to systems issues that require intervention, and quality and performance measures.
