As Director, Track, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of track infrastructure in compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations across a diverse territory—including the Marquette, Owatonna, Jackson, Mason City, Sheldon, Waseca, and Tracy subdivisions. Your leadership will empower safe and efficient train operations while you guide and develop a team of front-line supervisors and union employees. By setting and upholding the highest standards for engineering and maintenance, you will ensure operational benchmarks are not only achieved but consistently exceeded. This pivotal role is based in Dubuque, IA.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:Provide oversight of the assigned geographic territory, ensuring all infrastructure meets regulatory compliance and safety standardsEnforce adherence to CPKC safety practices among all direct reports to promote a safe working environmentAchieve target safety, compliance, service, and financial objectives while identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance operational efficiencyDevelop and execute comprehensive annual safety plans in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirementsManage emergency response to service interruptions and seasonal plans for winter, flood, and fireEnsure all work practices are consistent with established labor agreements, promoting fair and compliant workforce managementFoster strong cross-functional relationships and maintain clear, effective communication among direct reports and other departmentsOversee execution of current-year operational plans and provide strategic input on capital planning priorities to support long-term organizational objectivesCoach direct reports to improve effectiveness, implement performance plans, and support career developmentInvestigate train accidents on main track and sidings, promptly identifying root causes and ensuring timely and accurate reportingPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or general equivalency; bacherlor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is an assest10 years of progressive railroad experience, with a proven track record in leading and managing complex, results-driven projects and programs5+ years of specialized experience in track construction and maintenance of railway physical plant, demonstrating strong expertise in track maintenance, track renewal, structures maintenance, and signals & communications systemsValid driver’s licenseComprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and financial statementsProven ability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to ensure compliance with CPKC policies, standards, and regulatory requirementsAbility to manage multiple priorities concurrently and ensure the achievement of key performance metrics during both emergency and non-emergency operationsStrong leadership skills with the ability to influence peers, cross-functional co-managers, and the executive leadership teamWHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits packageCompetitive company pension and/or retirement plansEmployee share purchase planPerformance incentive planAnnual fitness subsidyPart-time studies programPRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:Medical and Drug Testing This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required.
