Job Title: Substitute Bus MonitorReports to: Director of TransportationDept./School: TransportationWage/Hour Status: NonexemptPay Grade: $15.00 an hourPRIMARY PURPOSE:Rides the school bus and helps the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Certification Requirements* High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred* Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background checkKnowledge and SkillsAbility to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectivelyAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipmentAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesPunctual and dependableMust be able to understand instructions and communicate in basic EnglishAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Assist students on/off the bus as neededEscort children across street to/from curbAssist special needs students individually as neededSecure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safety of the studentsWork cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the busMaintain good rapport with students, parents and guardiansMaintain discipline in-route.
