Job Title: Substitute Bus MonitorReports to: Director of TransportationDept./School: TransportationWage/Hour Status: NonexemptPay Grade: $15.00 an hourPRIMARY PURPOSE:Rides the school bus and helps the driver ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Certification Requirements* High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred* Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background checkKnowledge and SkillsAbility to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectivelyAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipmentAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesPunctual and dependableMust be able to understand instructions and communicate in basic EnglishAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)Assist students on/off the bus as neededEscort children across street to/from curbAssist special needs students individually as neededSecure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safety of the studentsWork cooperatively with driver in maintaining safe conditions on the busMaintain good rapport with students, parents and guardiansMaintain discipline in-route. Notifies appropriate campus personnel of problem students or unusual happeningsKnow bus routes well enough to guide a substitute driverHelp driver keep bus cleanMay be required to work with wheelchairsWork irregular hours as neededMay be required to lift younger students into or out of car seatsSupervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seat seats by studentsFollow emergency procedures and helps driver administer first aid, if necessaryOperate equipment according to established safety proceduresFollow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etcMaintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceEnsure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of EthicsDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities:N/AEquipment Used:* Wheelchair lifts, ramps, locks, and special needs adaptive equipment.Mental Demands:* Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute,* Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demands:* Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.* Occasional: Lifting, heavy, 45 pounds or moreEnvironmental Factors:Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibrationOccasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.)Work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hoursNondiscrimination Statement:The Southside School District considers applicants for all positions without regard to race, color, national origin, age, religion, sex, marital or veteran status, the presence of a medical condition, disability, or any other legally protected status.
