The Media Teacher supports students and staff in the use of digital media. The Media Teacher develops appropriate programs for students utilizing resources; and instructs students and others on the proper use of the computer and technology resources.Under the direction of the media teacher, the media course provides the learning community with the necessary tools to become lifelong learners and contributors to society by promoting and supporting information literacy. Students will be able to effectively seek information, deepen their love for print and digital resources, and foster technology skills. The library media center curriculum facilitates student self discovery and self direction using and understanding different types of information resources. It consists of four major literacies: information, research, reading, and technological/digital.The course can address any of the four strands: library, research, literature, and digital citizenship.QUALIFICATIONSValid Michigan teaching certificate (Elementary), Educational Technology (NP) preferredExperience working with students at the elementary and middle school levelAbility to design and implement effective programs for diverse learnersOutstanding communication skillsExcellent observation and analytical skillsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the supervision of the Shared Time Supervisor, the Media Teacher:Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to assist in the selection of instructional materials; keeps students and teaching staff informed regarding new acquisitions for use in the classroom.Serves as a ready resource to students to provide research and technology assistance.Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Develops and arranges educational displays.Assists with the preparation and administration of the media budget.Supporting teachers with materials for special projects in the classroom.PLANNING AND PREPARATIONDemonstrates knowledge of current trends in media practice and information mediaDemonstrates knowledge of the school's program and student information needs within that programEstablishes goals for the media program appropriate to the setting and the students servedDemonstrates knowledge of resources, both within and beyond the school and district, and access to suchPlans the media program, integrated with the overall school programDevelops a plan to evaluate the media programENVIRONMENTCreates an environment of respect and rapportEstablishes a culture for investigation and love of mediaEstablishes and maintains technology and computer proceduresManages student behaviorOrganizes physical space to enable smooth flowDELIVERY OF SERVICECollaborates with teachers in the design of instructional units and lessonsEngages students in enjoying technology and in learning information skillsAssists students and teachers in the use of technology in the classroomDemonstrates flexibility and responsivenessPROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESReflects on practiceCommunicates with the larger communityParticipates in a professional communityShows professionalismAPPLICATION PROCESSApplicants may also email a cover letter and resume to gary.yee@berkleyschools.orgDEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Until filledPer School Safety Legislation, each individual, who is either employed full-time or part-time, or is assigned to regularly and continuously work under contract, shall be fingerprinted for the purpose of performing a criminal history background check.
