IP Litigation Associate / Partner
Location: Irvine, CA | Palo Alto, CA | San Francisco, CA
A highly regarded California law firm is seeking an experienced IP Litigation Associate or Partner to join its sophisticated and expanding Intellectual Property practice. This opportunity offers the chance to work on complex patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes for innovative clients across a variety of industries.
The ideal candidate will bring strong litigation experience, excellent advocacy skills, and the ability to independently manage significant aspects of high-stakes matters from inception through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Manage intellectual property litigation matters through all phases of litigation, including pre-suit investigations, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal
Handle patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes in federal courts and administrative forums
Draft and argue dispositive motions, claim construction briefs, and other substantive filings
Take and defend fact and expert witness depositions
Develop and execute case strategy, including damages analysis and expert coordination
Work directly with clients, in-house counsel, and technical experts
Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and litigation support teams
Contribute to business development initiatives and client relationship management efforts
Qualifications
Required
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in good standing
5-8+ years of intellectual property litigation experience
Strong academic credentials
Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
Experience managing sophisticated litigation matters with increasing levels of responsibility
Preferred
Experience with patent litigation and technology-related disputes
Trial, arbitration, or appellate experience
Experience before the PTAB, TTAB, or ITC
Technical degree or industry-specific intellectual property experience
Portable business or demonstrated client development experience (for partner-level candidates)
