Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork. This is a seasonal position scheduled to work May 1, 2024 - October 31, 2024 Pay Grade D1 - DOE Minimum Requirements High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience in a similar position, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A, Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Alaska and possession of a valid Department of Transportation medical card is desired. Certification in Asbestos Identification. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer employment physical and background check. Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy. Duties/Responsibilities <ul><li>Monitors the central landfill; ensures customer compliance with policies and procedures.<li>Effectively answers questions from the public to provide information and resolve complaints.<li>Closes and opens disposal sites; keeps disposal areas clean and functional.<li>May operate semi-tractor and trailer to transport solid waste to the landfill, if qualified.<li>May operate a variety of heavy equipment.<li>Develops and plans special projects.<li>Builds and constructs retaining walls, signage, retaining nets, and fencing.<li>Assists with the repairs and remodels of transfer site buildings.<li>Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools.<li>Maintains chainsaws, weed eaters, chop saws, and other hand and power tools.<li>Assists in the maintenance and repairs of division equipment.<li>Monitors automated scale to ensure accuracy.<li>Monitors the disposal of Asbestos and other special waste in accordance with Federal and State regulations.<li>Conducts snow removal operations.<li>Maintains grounds at all division properties.<li>Assists in the scale house as required.<li>Performs related duties.</li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></li></ul> Temporary and on-call employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package.
