- The University Attending Veterinarian (UAV) and Director of the Department of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) oversees the on and off campus care and use of animals in research, education, and service programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. This includes a wide variety of vertebrate species used in biomedical and agricultural research education.

- The UAV serves as a member of the campus Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee and other relevant committees such as the Institutional Biosafety Committee, evaluating animal use protocols and amendments, providing guidance and support to committees, principal investigators and biosafety personnel, and, advises University leadership about issues and policies pertaining to animal care and use.
- As the DLAR Director, oversees the operations of the unit, ensuring that appropriate clinical care, facilities, housing, personnel and equipment are provided to meet the needs of University clients in accordance with regulatory and compliance standards.
