- An employee in this class is responsible for performing assignments involving installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electrical and electronic traffic signal systems and controls and street lighting poles and wiring.
- Troubleshoots and field repairs traffic signal control systems, cabinets and field wiring, including communications cable to keep equipment in proper operation; detects causes of electrical equipment and instrument failure for immediate correction and prevention; reads, interprets and works from blueprints, diagrams and schematics.
- Drives and operates aerial lift platform bucket truck, tower truck, and light automotive equipment; operates light mechanical equipment; operates specialized electronic test equipment for radio and traffic signal control equipment; operates CB and base radio.
- Knowledge of: basic principles and practices of electricity; methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment pertinent to construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical traffic signal systems and controls; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
- Skill in: diagnosing electrical and electro-mechanical traffic control equipment problems; use and care of electrical and electro-mechanical testing devices, repair tools, and equipment.
