- The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop a productive and vigorous externally-funded research program as well as the enthusiasm and drive to teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in astronomy outreach activities.
- The Physical Sciences Department has about 45 faculty members and 350 students, one of the largest undergraduate programs in Astronomy & Astrophysics (BSAA) in the US, as well as one of the leading ABET-accredited undergraduate Engineering Physics programs in the US, and BS Space Physics, MS Engineering Physics, and PhD Engineering Physics programs.
- The Department also provides service courses in physics, astronomy, and chemistry to other majors.
- BSAA program faculty have expertise in observational and computational stellar astrophysics, stellar evolution, massive stars, white dwarfs, planetary atmospheres and exospheres, solar system dynamics, asteroids, interstellar medium, and instrumentation including spectroscopy and Fabry-Perot interferometry.
