- This is the entry, training and first working level class in the Instructional Aide - Sign Language Interpreter class series.
- Instructional methods and techniques generally applicable to working with disabled children and youth.
- Instructional Aide I - Sign Language Interpreter: Completion of specialized education courses in educational interpreting, psychology of deafness, education of the deaf, various sign languages and human/child development.
- Instructional Aide II - Sign Language Interpreter: One year of work experience comparable to that of a Instructional Aide I - Sign Language Interpreter with the completion of 24 semester units of childhood development, specialized sign language interpreting, or closely related courses.
- Up to 6 units of extracurricular courses sponsored by the Placer County Office of Education may be substituted for 6 of the required 24 units and passage of a Placer County Office of Education administered sign language proficiency evaluation.
