- Summary Job Description: Shop Electrician Apprentice: The purpose of this job is to learn the skills necessary to inspect, maintain, repair, and rebuild all electrical components of NICTD's railroad passenger cars.
- Candidates must have skills using the tools of the electrician trade including, but not limited to, voltage and amp meters, high pot testers, meggers, frequency counters, DC power supplies, cranes, and other common electrical hand tools.
- Successful candidates should expect to work varying hours of their apprenticeship on day shift, afternoon shift, night shift, weekends, some holidays, and relief assignments.
- An excellent defined-benefit style pension is provided through the Railroad Retirement Board.
- One or more years of practical comparable electrical experience or at least twelve (12) credit hours of trade school or college level study in the electrical field, HVAC systems, or heavy industrial maintenance.
