- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) is a high-functioning specialized surgical department for patients requiring various surgical repairs or corrections pertaining to any element of the heart and all associated structures functioning with the heart, including internal chambers of the heart, the lungs, and the aorta.
- This unit services all ages from young adult to geriatric populations, and procedures will carry all anesthesia classifications, ranging from routine-elective to hyperacute emergent salvage patients.
- CVOR nurses will provide standby for hybrid OR procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and intra-cardiac pacemaker lead extractions.
- Nurse’s primary roles are exemplified in the actual operating room suites assisting the surgeon, anesthesiologist, perfusionist, and other nursing roles.
- CVOR nurses will engage in interdepartmental communication with various other departments including but not limited to laboratory, blood bank and pathology, radiology, same-day surgery, PACU and CVICU, cath lab, and nursing administration.
