- Specializes in the application of scientific knowledge and theory to practical clinical problems of respiratory care.
- Assumes primary clinical responsibility for all respiratory care modalities specific to his or her clinical area, including responsibility involved in supervision of Respiratory Therapy Technicians and students enrolled in respiratory care programs.
- The Respiratory Therapist may be required to exercise considerable independent clinical judgement in the respiratory care of patients under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required and licensed by the State of New York or practicing under limited permit as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Graduate therapists who hold a permit to practice as a Respiratory Therapist will also be hired into this category, with a 5% reduction in salary until the RRT credential and therapist license are obtained.
