- The scope of care includes the medical and nursing management of patients: (1) who experience the acute onset of any disease affecting any organ system, (2) who is at risk of developing life-threatening complications as a result of their acute disease state or injury, and (3) who suffer exacerbations of chronic disease states.
- Therapies in the MCCU may include peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, and conventional ventilation support.
- Monitoring includes central venous pressure, pulmonary artery, arterial line, electrocardiogram, pulse oximetry, and apnea monitoring.
- Provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way by integrating knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum
- Develops a plan to connect the patient and family to the appropriate community resources to meet their post-acute care needs in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team
