- The Hematology/Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate and deliver nursing care to complex oncology and medical subspecialty clinic patients within the Joint Hematology Oncology Infusion Center at David Grant Medical Center (DGMC).
- In addition, key oncology responsibilities include expert safe administration /handling of chemotherapy/biotherapy, complex multidisciplinary case management, and patient care coordination and management of patients on clinical oncology research trials.
- Administration of complex, high-risk, chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy regimens; and supportive infusion/vascular access services.
- Adheres to the ten (10) Rights of Medication Administration, performing timely effectiveness documentation; obtains &/or supports specimen collection within scope of Nursing Licensure and practice.
- Management of side effects related to chemotherapy and/or disease presentation or progression; to include, but not limited to, prevention and management of nausea and vomiting, fluid/electrolyte balance, management of fatigue, nutritional support, management of anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia; hypercalcemia of malignancy, and other side effects or toxicities related to hematology/oncology diseases.
