The Student Outreach and Re-engagement (SOAR) Center is a cross-agency collaboration focused on the re-engagement of and re-enrollment of chronically truant and out-of-school youth. Located within Student Support and Engagement in the Office of College and Career Success (OSSE), the SOAR program is intended to ensure the successful transition and graduation of students who have dropped out of school and desire to re-enroll in a program that will assist them in developing their path to graduation. The SOAR teams work closely with District and Options Schools, which offer additional supports and services for students who need a new pathway toward high school graduation, who have been out of school and seek to return, or who may need opportunities to earn credits in an accelerated program. Job Summary: The Re-Engagement Workshop Facilitator will be responsible for providing group and individualized support to students who are disengaged from school. This position will facilitate presentations and offer coaching around best practices for navigating day-to-day school situations. The Re-Engagement Workshop facilitator will provide a variety of learning options, tailoring instruction to accommodate various young adult learning styles and needs while helping students explore careers and plan for the future. This position will report to the Re-Engagement Program Coordinator. The Re-Engagement Workshop Facilitator will be held accountable for the following responsibilities: Monitor the day-to-day operations of two-week re-engagement workshops occurring twice monthly at rotating locations Facilitate re-engagement sessions following specific curriculum designed for out-of-school youth Build and maintain relationships with students in order to establish a connection to encourage them to return to the program daily Work with students to explore career interests and opportunities, establish personal goals, and develop an individualized success plan Provide resources and assist students with exploring multiple educational pathways to meet their academic goals Maintain accurate documentation of student records, student plans, and performance tracking reports during the two-week workshop; provide updated data to re-engagement coordinator on a daily basis Maintain a database for tracking student participation and activity delivery data Collaborate and maintain strong relationships with the re-engagement team colleagues and provide timely responses to requests for information or support Attend and participate in regularly scheduled re-engagement team meetings Other duties as assigned In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Re-Engagement Workshop Facilitator must possess the following qualifications: Education Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university preferred Experience Required: Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in social service, mentoring, or academic programs, including the following, is required: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a role responsible for facilitating workshops or trainings, and/or teaching/leading a classroom of, at-risk high school youth Experience with Restorative Justice practices and classroom management is preferred Language proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Dedicated to providing every child with access to high-quality education; acts as an advocate for students, and role models this behavior for fellow team members Ability to learn and adapt in the midst of new and shifting programs and priorities with a "can-do," solutions-oriented approach to learning and problem solving Capable of creating a student-friendly environment while building and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff and parents Outstanding organization skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities/deadlines and maintain detailed files and records Able to evaluate and meet the social service needs of at-risk students, including and coordinating the efforts of various social service agencies and community organizations Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills Self-starter capable of successfully completing work with minimal supervision in a non-traditional learning environment/outside of a formalized, central office setting Must possess computer skills including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps Able to work flexible hours as needed to attend or facilitate evening meetings or complete other work as necessary to meet the needs of students and families Other requirements: Access to transportation to travel to other sites is required Valid Driver’s License and vehicle access preferred Conditions of Employment As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to: Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois. Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
