- A certified Wisconsin law enforcement officer who has resigned or retired within 3 years of their potential hire date may be recertified by the state and is eligible to apply for this process.
- Out of State and federal law enforcement officers may be eligible for lateral compensation incentives to include increased pay and vacation based upon prior years of full-time law enforcement, firefighting, EMS and/or corrections experience.
- Military Police: Candidates currently serving or who have military veteran status in a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) as a law enforcement officer (Military Police / Security Forces / Master at Arms) may apply for this accelerated process.
- Once hired, a new Public Safety Officer will undergo a traditional police field training program conducted on an 8 hour shift with either a 5-2 or 6-3 rotation.
- During this period, the PSO will be required to complete Firefighter I and Emergency Medical Technician training if necessary.
