- This position is for a postdoctoral scholar to support an NIH-funded community-engaged research project on drinking water disinfection byproducts in the Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology at the University of Kentucky.
- Disinfection byproducts, which are toxic chemicals formed during the chlorination of drinking water, are among the most ubiquitous contaminants of drinking water in the United States and globally.
- They are the primary source of Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level Violations in the US. The successful applicant will conduct research using both traditional and community-based participatory methods on the factors governing the formation of and exposure to disinfection byproducts in rural drinking water systems as part of an NIEHS-funded research to action project.
- Applicants must have an earned doctorate in civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental health science, toxicology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with exposure modeling, indoor air quality modeling, analysis of drinking water chemistry and contaminants, and familiarity with drinking water treatment and distribution is desirable.
