- Accomplish the seasonal tasks of gardening, lawn mowing, snow removal and related daily tasks of a general laborer similar to a municipal DPW.
- Recognize hazardous conditions and possess the ability to make operational judgments in order to avoid them such as: mower or snow blower discharging towards pedestrians, vehicles or windows, equipment rollovers on steep terrain.
- Prepares ground, lays seed or sod, planting flowers or shrubs, using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design in accordance with project requirements.
- Knowledge and ability to provide Laborer support on larger projects in order to: install drainage swales and culvert pipes, pot hole repair, street & sidewalk sweeping, moving supplies, help with form construction and back filling for new sidewalks and ramp installations, in accordance with oral or written direction.
- Understand the importance of the new Safety Data Sheet (SDS) under the new Global Harmonization System (GHS) and how it pertains to worker safety and chemical storage & use for such chemicals as: gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, grease, lubricants, de-greasers, etc
