- The Observatory operates a variety of radio telescopes that span the globe, including the famous Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile.
- Under minimum supervision, keeps all Observatory buildings clean and orderly.
- The position is based at the Very Large Array, 50 miles west of Socorro, NM. Socorro is a small, historical town in the Rio Grande Valley, 75 miles south of Albuquerque.
- Cleaning offices, hallways, rest rooms, elevators, stairways, shops and other work areas, including sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors; washes windows, door panels, and sills; empties wastebaskets, and transports trash and waste to disposal area; replenishing restroom supplies; may clean rugs, carpets, furniture, and draperies as required; may be required to record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment to supervisory staff.
