- Job Summary The level II Intermediate Coder is competent to independently code inpatient and/or outpatient service types and resolve any associated billing edits.
- Responsible for reviewing medial record documentation to correctly assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10 CM) and Procedure Coding System (PCS codes) or Current Procedural Terminology (CPT codes).
- Captures specificity of diagnoses and procedures to insure appropriate/optimal reimbursement is captured while adhering to all applicable coding and billing guidelines.
- Minimum Job QualificationsLicensure or other certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Must pass an internal NGHS coder competency exam with a minimum score of 90% demonstrating proficiency in inpatient and/or outpatient coding of all service types or pass and earn the CCS, CPC, CIC, or COC certification while in the Coder HIM II job title.
