- The Heavy-Duty Mechanic / Emergency Vehicle Technician performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of all apparatus and equipment assigned to the Fire Department.
- The individual works under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Staff Division Chief, or a designee.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of automotive and heavy-duty truck repair and maintenance in order to perform the duties of a full journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic and certified Emergency Vehicle Technician.
- Performs mechanical tasks in the maintenance and rebuilding of fire pumps, ladders, hydraulic ladders, water towers, aerial platforms, hose reels, relief valves, water valves, pressure governors, flow meters, foam eductors, foam equipment, auxiliary coolers, drain systems, water tanks, remote control nozzles, hydraulic systems, and power converters.
- Performs small engine repairs on equipment, such as rescue tools, rescue saws, portable generators, fire station auxiliary generators, lawnmowers, and snowblowers.
