- Under general supervision, the GIS Technician will assist, take part in, and perform tasks typically assigned to a GIS Technician in the IT Division.
- Utilize ArcGIS software to identify, create, and modify geographic data, analyze GIS data using geoprocessing tools, and compose, symbolize, and print maps.
- Use various GIS tools to support projects and research in a variety of areas related to local government, such as planning, business development, public works, code enforcement, water quality, stormwater, urban forest management, and public safety.
- Principles, practices, and methods of GIS cartography, spatial analysis, and data management; Office productivity software; effective business communication and correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; Internet use and research methods and techniques.
- A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from a two-year college with a degree or emphasis in geography, software engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field and two to four years of increasingly responsible related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
