- The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance network, or CHAMPS, is a global health surveillance network aimed at preventing childhood mortality in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. The CHAMPS network is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to increase understanding of how, where, and why children become ill & die enabling scientists and public health leaders around the world to take action.
- CHAMPS has ongoing surveillance activities at nine sites in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Pakistan, and Nigeria, CHAMPS collaborates with government ministries, healthcare systems, and local stakeholders, providing technical support and financial assistance.
- Provides technical and scientific expertise for programs in the areas of communicable disease, chronic disease and environmental epidemiology.
- Reports to the Science, Site Strategy, and Implementation Senior Director and the PI/Executive Director of CHAMPS.
- Consults and works with the CHAMPS DSS Leadership Center.
