- Some specific functions and duties of an Electrician at Car Equipment Division are: Troubleshoot, test, repair, rewire electrical and electronic equipment of the railcar subsystems such as traction control, HVAC, lighting, communications, auxiliary power supply, electronic signage, and all other electrical/electronic system/subsystems that make up the whole railcar.
- Performs extensive fault log downloads from the railcar using computerized Portable Test Equipment (PTE) to conduct troubleshooting and repair of railcar failures/defects.
- Performs removal, installation, assembly and disassembly of various railcar systems/subsystems; performs repair and overhaul of railcar equipment -away from the railcar- in Electrical Shop (i.e., bench-work)
- Uses electrical and electronic test equipment for troubleshooting and repair of railcar defects/failures; cleans electrical and electronic assemblies/subassemblies including Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), equipment covers/enclosures, motors, and all parts/components associated with railcar systems.
- Working conditions will be challenging, including but not limited to inclement weather, direct contact with the public, in tunnel and outside areas during active train service, and an industrial environment.
