Full-time
- 70% Directs STD and HIV case management and conducts follow-up in Region 4, advising the health unit nursing supervisor and all public health nurses to assure compliance with regional programmatic policies and procedures.
- Orients new Disease Intervention Specialists in the initial medical and epidemiological aspects of the STD/HIV Program through demonstrations, periodic audits and critiques of their individual work performance, trains the STD/HIV staff in field work activities such as interviewing clients, persuading them to divulge partner identification and location, conducting rapid HIV/Syphilis testing, and advising on how to proceed safely in dangerous situations, etc.
- Works with hospital infection control nurses, school nurses, state and parish correction facility nurses, coroners, private physicians, and community-based organization administrators, advising them in the proper procedures and management of STD and HIV cases and contacts affecting those particular agencies.
- Works closely with Regional Administrator/Medical Director to organize and conduct provider education/outreach sessions.
- Prepares written reports and assists with Disease Intervention Specialist Standard Operating Procedures Manual and development of other statewide DIS policies and protocols.
