- Performs general law enforcement duties within the Patrol Division under the direct supervision of a supervisory deputy, usually a Sergeant.
- Deputies are subject to exposure to hazards associated with law enforcement work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as dangerous persons, loud noises, and hazardous spills with fumes, oils, gases, or flammable liquids.
- Deputies are required to attend and complete mandatory in-service training as required by the N.C. Sheriff's Training and Standards Commission as well as departmentally required and voluntary training in-house and through outside agencies.
- General knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to inmate sentencing, pretrial conditions, and release.
- General knowledge of the Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
