- Under the general supervision of the District Attorney, and the direct supervision of the Chief Deputy District Attorney, the Deputy District Attorney II represents the State of Oregon in Crook County as a trial lawyer in the prosecution of criminal actions in Circuit Court proceedings.
- The Deputy District Attorney II prepares criminal, child support, civil forfeiture, juvenile dependency and delinquency cases.
- The Deputy District Attorney II assists the District Attorney in performing all of the functions of the District Attorneys office, including, but not limited to arraignments, release hearings, restitution hearings, plea/sentencing hearings, probation and revocation hearings, contempt hearings, mental hearings, juvenile hearings, child support hearings, civil forfeiture proceedings, and jury trials.
- The District Attorney II typically prosecutes more difficult criminal felony cases and receives less supervision and exercises more discretion and independent judgment than the District Attorney I. The Deputy District Attorney II may work as a lead worker over the Deputy District Attorney I in the absence of the Chief Deputy District Attorney.
- Participates in crime scene investigations when called out by law enforcement; reviews crime scene and advises on seizure of evidence; assists investigators with search warrant affidavits.
