- It provides unique expertise and capabilities for R&D to advance initiatives for Brookhaven, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), its Office of Science (SC) and National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), NASA, industry, and other strategic partners.
- ATRO includes the venerable Instrumentation Division and Magnet Division, the newly formed Accelerator Facilities (AF) Division with the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF), and the Office of Project Management and Engineering.
- Collaboration with the ATRO Leadership Team (ATRO Director, Division Directors, Deputy for Security Programs, and Directorate Chief Operating Officer) to drive strategy development and identify staff and other resource requirements.
- These efforts focus on the development of advanced accelerator and laser concepts to support next-generation accelerator capabilities that address identified and emerging needs for scientific research, national security, industry, and medicine.
- A major thrust of the MD is advancing superconductor and magnet technology for applications such as fusion and wind energy.
