- Administers and enforces Town and state codes regulating construction, use and occupancy of buildings, and structures as interpreted by the Chief Building Official.
- Performs inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings during and after construction to ensure code compliance.
- The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Chief Building Official, but leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
- Requires an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in either architecture, structural engineering, building, technology with construction management, or building science and three (3) years of experience as a building inspector or in general construction and related fields; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must be licensed through South Carolina Building Codes Council as a Building Official within 24 months of hire.
