- Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Data Scientist for a multi-year contract supporting the Coronavirus and Respiratory Viruses Laboratory Branch (CRVLB) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention located in Atlanta, GA. Candidates for this position need to be physically located in the metro Atlanta area.
- Job Duties and Responsibilities:The professional for this role needs to be well versed in processing raw sequence data produced by Sanger and NGS methods as well as identifying, characterizing, and annotate genes found in sequence data.
- In addition, they will know how to identify unique regions of pathogen genomes for use as targets in molecular diagnostic assays and design oligonucleotide primers/probes for use in sequencing projects and pathogen detection assays.
- They will leverage their analytical and interpretive skills to analyze NGS data from routine and enhanced global surveillance using spatiotemporal, phylodynamic, and epidemiologic approaches to determine trends that can be used in making decisions about prevention, treatment and control of epidemics or pandemics.
- Candidate Qualifications:The professional for this role will have at a minimum a Masters degree in a scientific field such as Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or equivalent quantitative scientific discipline.
