- At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist / Cytotechnologist is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population, and will also Interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, physicians, support staff, peers and other members of the hospital community.
- Using a microscope, a cytotechnologist will examine Gynecologic (GYN), Non-Gynecologic (NonGYN), and Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA's) cytology specimens to determine if a specimen is benign and/or malignant.
- Screen Cytology specimens (Gynecologic, Non-Gynecologic and (FNA's) to determine whether the cellular changes meet guidelines to necessitate referral to the Pathologist.
- Schedule and attend FNA's (i.e.: Endoscopy, CAT scan, Ultrasound and Cancer Center, etc) to determine specimen adequacy.
- Process specimens for microscopic evaluation when needed (i.e. registration, ordering, accessioning and cytopreparation) according to established policies & procedures.
