- The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago is a state-of-the-art facility, with 20 general PICU beds and 10 beds designated for cardiac intensive care patients.
- The PICU team directs the care of these critically ill children together with consulting services from across the hospital, including both medical and surgical subspecialties (pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, trauma surgery, ENT, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery).
- The CCON responds to all Rapid Response Team pages and ward cardiac arrest calls and demonstrates an ability to assess and recognize a deteriorating patient condition, communicate with the interdisciplinary team, and implement interventions.
- Additionally, the Pediatric Critical Care Outreach Nurse assists and accompanies patient transfers to higher level of care or diagnostic testing requiring an RN. They maintain accurate documentation on the Rapid Response Team, cardiac arrests, activation of stroke team.
