- The ideal candidate for this position has a background in hazard mitigation planning and experience with land use planning and community development.
- Developing and delivering technical assistance and training that supports state, tribal, and local hazard mitigation planning and implementation of risk reduction strategies.
- Understanding, educating, and developing special projects to support the integration natural hazards into various state and local regulatory and investment mechanisms (i.e., capital improvement plans, comprehensive plans, integrated watershed management plans, climate change action plans, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Community Rating System, and FEMA hazard mitigation grant programs) for long term risk reduction.
- All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.
- Degree: community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance.
