- Description Summary:This position is an intermediate level that works with multiple computer systems and/or performs specimen processing duties including accessioning, determining specimen viability, identifying, and resolving labeling/identification discrepancies and contacting physicians regarding issues with patients/orders, patient registration, proper patient billing including the use of ICD-9 codes and pertinent knowledge of commercial and government payers.
- Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids.
- Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.
- Minimum Qualifications:High School or GED (Required)Experience in laboratory or hospital setting.
- superior customer services skills, medical terminology, basic anatomy, advanced computer skills, ICD-9 coding, specimen handling.
