- CCSI provides the specialized staffing and technical assistance needed to advance the critical work of the Institute for Police, Mental Health and Community Collaboration (the Institute), a statewide initiative that works in collaboration with the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS OMH) to improve crisis response systems.
- The shared vision of the Institute and NYS OMH is to assist localities across the state in evolving their crisis response systems to be less reliant on law enforcement when responding to individuals in emotional distress and to help police be more prepared when called to respond to individuals in crisis.
- Actively participates in all aspects of the Institute's work, including but not limited to: conducting Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) mapping, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, CIT Train-the-Trainer workshops, and Mobile Access Program (MAP) training and monitoring activities.
- Providing subject matter expertise on curriculum development - with a specific emphasis on ensuring issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are thoroughly addressed in all training materials.
- Collaborating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including State agency partners, local government, law enforcement, community providers, peers, family members, and other key figures working to improve the mental health-criminal justice interface in the development and delivery of Institute services.
