- As a senior-level administrator reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean for Students, in partnership with a team of dedicated student-facing professionals, is accountable for a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities, including recruitment, admissions, financial aid (e.g., awarding of fellowships, block grant funds), student orientation and annual events, undergraduate and graduate advising, and related programs.
- The Assistant Dean, serving as a conduit for student-facing staff, provides strategic leadership and works closely with the Dean, Executive Associate Dean, Associate Dean of Students, Assistant Dean for Education, Chief of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, student advisors, faculty leadership, and others to develop, implement, and assess programs and initiatives that are responsive to student needs and continuously innovate and improve upon the student experience.
- Ensures undergraduate student advisors (who are direct reports) are fully trained and well supported relative to the Student Information Systems (i.e. CalCentral), UC and L&S Division of Undergraduate Studies policies and procedures, pre-health and pre-med news/updates/advising, student advising skills and competencies, etc.
- Ensures Graduate Student Affairs Officers (GSAOs, who report to their respective academic divisions/programs) are fully trained and well supported relative to the Student Information Systems (i.e. CalCentral), Graduate Division policies and procedures, and student advising skills and competencies, in collaboration with the Director of Student Services.
- Serves as a thought-partner and advocate for RISE: Berkeley Public Health Careers and Leadership Office in the areas of strategic development and practicum assessments for all MPH and DrPH students.
