- According to established procedures, using principles specific to pediatrics, adolescent, adults, and elderly patients, secures and obtains factual information relative to patients’ social, financial and limited medical history; enters information into hospital computer.
- Admits patients as inpatient/observation admissions via ER or as direct admits from the physician office.
- In the event the patient has no insurance, all clerks will make reasonable efforts to obtain demographic information from these patients which includes: calling the patient’s family, visiting the patient/family in the room, calling the nursing home (if patient is a resident), reviewing the paramedic run sheet and searching the patient’s belongings.
- Calls patients in advance for pre-admission testing, providing ambulatory surgery instructions.
- Provides backup phone coverage to the switchboard for lunch and between the hours of 11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m., 7 days per week.
